more on creative insects...

Ok... the skinny on the creative insects (with pictures!!!!!)

Here is low down on the project...
Supplies:
part one:
styrofoam egg cartons
glue
part two:
glue/water mixture
paint brushes for glue
tissue paper
part three:
more glue
feathers
buttons
beads
pipe cleaners

Prep:
- Cut the tops off of styrofoam egg cartons. (Each kid will get one bottom part to the carton... the part where the eggs go)
- Cut up a bunch of extra in case there is a need for a few extra egg holders.

Let the fun begin:
- Demo demo demo... show the kids a couple possible ways they can use the egg carton.
- Let them know they can use the top if they want to.
- Make sure the students keep in mind they have to have six legs.
( I gave them the choice of using the egg carton as legs OR they could add on pipe cleaners later)
- Let them create.
(They will need help gluing the bodies together)

* After the bodies are glued and have dried...
- Next it is time to tissue paper collage over the entire thing.
- Glue then tissue paper then glue again. Encourage over lapping of the tissue paper and make clear to the kids not to ball up pieces and stick them one.
( This is great for kids who love to rush... it makes them HAVE to slow down and watch what they are doing. Also, it helps with fine motor skillzzzzz)
- This is extremely messy :)

*After the bodies are tissue papered and have dried...
- Next the kids can decorate.
- I gave them beads, buttons, feather and pipe cleaners. They had the best time adding on and making their bugs creative and individual.

This project is some seriously super fun (super messy too, but don't be scared!) The kids get a lot out of it AND it show cases how creative a 7 year old really is!

Happy bug making!
